Freeport Community Library – “Around Freeport” Art Exhibit
Freeport Community Library
During the month of March, Freeport Community Library will be hosting local artist Polly Smith. Her exhibit is called “Around Freeport” as Smith lives and paints in Freeport and pulls most of her inspiration from these local landscapes. She manipulates layers of watercolors to get rich and interesting colors. Smith works to express what she feels at the spot using the endless possibilities of watercolor, remaining true to reality but unbound to it.
Smith is a working member of the Stable Gallery in Damariscotta, a gallery open May through October that displays fine arts and crafts by Maine artists of various disciplines. Additionally, she has participated in art shows at Bucksport Along the Shore, Maine Coffee Roasters, Clayton’s, Tao Yuan, Brunswick’s Art Walk, Edna and Lucy’s restaurant, Gallery Hair and various holiday sales since 2013.
Smith has painted in watercolors exclusively for the past ten years or so, and her teachers have included Dewitt Hardy, Alvaro Castagnet, Mick Watson, Marguerite Lawler, Diana Johnson, and Russell Whitten. She paints weekly with the Yarmouth Community House Artists in Yarmouth, Maine, a community that inspires and encourages her. She is a member of Maine Made Products.
