Freeport Community Center – Climate Action Plan Workshop

May 15, 2023 @ 6:30 pm

Dear Neighbors,
As you may be aware, the Town of Freeport, with the help of the Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG), is in the process of writing and adopting a Climate Action Plan (CAP). At the moment, GPCOG is gathering baseline data on current greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and evaluating the impacts of climate change on Freeport’s coastline and low-lying areas. This information will be presented to Freeport’s residents at a workshop to be held on Monday, May 15th at 6:30 pm at the Freeport Community Center (53 Depot Street).

On May 15th, Freeport residents will have an opportunity to share their concerns around climate change, voice which areas the CAP should focus on, give feedback on emission reduction targets and ground-proof GPCOG’s models for sea-level rise impacts. Strong attendance is key to the success of the workshop and of the CAP. We hope that you will attend. In preparation for the May 15th workshop, residents are invited to visit www.freeportclimateaction.org
This site has excellent information on climate change in Maine (observed and projected temperature, sea level rise and changing rainfall patterns; sea level rise impacts, and an inventory of mitigation and adaptation strategies). It also shows a timeline of the progress made to date on Freeprt’s CAP.
We also encourage everyone to fill out this short survey. Your feedback will inform the action strategies to be included in the CAP.

Thank you very much for your time and engagement. We hope to see, and hear from you on May 15th at FCS.
