Gathering In Memory of Freeport Flag Lady, JoAnn Miller
March 4, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
JoAnn Miller, 88, was one of the three Flag Ladies who stood with her friends on Main Street in Freeport every Tuesday for 18 years. They started the tradition after the 9/11 attacks to honor the military and those who died in the attacks. They started their tradition of waving flags after then-President George W. Bush asked people to step out of their homes one night and light candles following the deadly terrorist attack. They would go on to stand every Tuesday, the 11th of every month in 2001, and every single day during the Iraq War. The group retired in 2019.
Miller’s remains will receive a first responder escort to the funeral home after the gathering on Main Street.
