Ruffled Feathers Art Studio is a collaboration between mother and son – Mel and Alex. Here you will find expressive cut color collages of birds nestled in their habitats designed by Alex and whimsical acrylic bird portraits painted by Mel. Together they share a love for vibrant colors, local birds and all things Maine.
What once started as way to do Occupational Therapy with Alex, has evolved into a way for him to express himself in ways that traditional pen and paper never allowed. Alex is a middle schooler who enjoys swimming, gaming and making art! He takes discarded paint samples and upcycles them into vibrant cut color collages. With an amazing eye for color, Alex assembles pallets that bring his subjects to life. He has a very cheeky sense of humor, and it can often be seen through his art.
Mel is a commercial interior designer and has painted her entire life. Her series of mini bird portraits initially started at the request of her kids and has continued to grow with each new season.
Over the past two years, we have attended juried art shows, children’s markets, had our works displayed in commercial buildings and we are currently being featured in a local restaurant.
