May 21, 6:30-7:30pm – “Growing Heirloom Tomatoes in Maine”
In this enlightening presentation, we will discuss how to care for your tomatoes from seedlings to harvest. You will learn about when to plant, water, feed, and nurture your tomatoes so that they thrive. We will also discuss some of the common challenges that we have all encountered in our shorter growing season. Additionally, we will offer an opportunity to share tomato tales and ask any tomato related questions.
May 28, 6:30-7:30pm – “Splendid Heirlooms & Uncommon Gems”
From a variety dating back to the 1500s, post-Civil War catalog stalwarts, to noteworthy 20th century breeding program introductions, we will discuss some overlooked gems that are sure to surprise and delight. These varieties have traveled with seed savers from across the globe, while others originate right here in the United States. Join us as we share tales of tomatoes that traversed the Underground Railroad, glowed in the presence of nearby ghosts, and even “lifted” a breeder’s Depression-era mortgage. You are sure to find this presentation informative and entertaining.
