Bradbury Mountain State Park – EnLichenment

Join Park Ranger/Maine Master Naturalist Jeff Pengal and discover the miniature world of lichens! Lichens are composite organisms, which means they are in a partnership (symbiosis) with several different fungi and algae. We’ll observe their unusual shapes and structures and learn some common species. This talk will explore the natural history, ecology, and recent research of those often unnoticed but extraordinarily common organisms. Bring a hand lens if you have one, but loaners will be available. Walk is geared toward teens and adults, and lasts about 90 minutes. Meet at the picnic shelter and wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes. Cameras are welcome; please be courteous of people who do not want to be in photos.
