Bradbury Mountain State Park – Sky Tour with James Shields

September 16, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Explore the nighttime and get to know the night sky with local Maine astronomer James Shields. He will use a laser to show you the constellations and share the stories behind them. He will also describe how the stars were used for directions and to decide the best time for activities. Additionally, he will show you how to use the park telescope and other equipment to find objects in the night sky. For adults and children 12 years and older–children must be accompanied by an adult. Program lasts about an hour, but James will likely stay longer for those interested in additional viewing. Meet at the field north of the start of the Northern Loop Trail. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring if you have them: binoculars, a red lens flashlight or headlamp, and a folding chair or pad. Free for campers registered at Bradbury Mountain, others pay the per person park entry fee upon arrival.

*Weather notice: May be canceled due to continuous precipitation or lightning in the area.

Free with park admission: Bradbury Mt. Day use: $1.00 ages 5-11, $4.00 Maine residents age 12-64, $6.00 non residents age 12-64, $2.00 non residents 65+; persons under 5 & Maine residents 65+ free
