Freeport Community Library – The James Webb Space Telescope: A Year In Review

July 12, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Come join Jon Wallace at Freeport Community Library on July 12th at 5:30-6:30pm and find out some of what the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has been doing in its first year of operation.

Last July the world got to see the first images from JWST and we were awed by their detail and the scope of the mission! Since then, there hasn’t been much in the news about the telescope… so, what has JWST been seeing and doing and what discoveries has it made? We’ll review what its goals are and why/how the telescope ‘sees’ in infrared and then look at some of the amazing things it has imaged and discovered about our solar system, other solar systems, and the early universe.

Jon Wallace was an award-winning high school science teacher in Meriden, Connecticut for over 32 years. He is a NASA Solar System Ambassador and serves on the Board of the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA).

This event is free and open to the public, we hope to see you there! For questions or directions to the library, visit freeportlibrary.com or give us a call at 207-865-3307.
