Maine Historical Society – Maine History Maker: Joan Benoit Samuelson

May 21 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Forty years ago, in 1984, Joan stunned crowds, winning the first-ever Olympic women’s marathon in Los Angeles. She instantly became an international icon: a groundbreaking athlete whose commitment, grit, and resilience continue to inspire audiences throughout the world. Today, as a competitive runner, generous mentor, and civic leader, Joan serve as a role model to Mainers, young women, and runners across the globe.
We hope you can be with us to thank “Joanie” for all that she means to Maine. Our special evening at L.L.Bean’s beautiful, new headquarters includes a reception with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a program sharing her Maine story.
