Fiddlewicks was founded by Sean Gallagher. Sean was a native of Bangor, Maine, and a former network executive at TLC. He was also the co-owner of Half Yard Productions, a TV production company responsible for hits like Say Yes to the Dress, Last Alaskans, and American Loggers (about the Pelletier Family in Northern Maine), just to name a few. He was also an avid candle enthusiast, which led him to try his hand at candle making as a hobby. He worked in his basement with a large wax melter and a variety of scents and mixed up Maine Madness, a clean pine scent reminiscent of his home state. Over time, his interest in candles grew, as did the array of scents. One of his favorites was Coffee House, named in honor of the many coffees he shared with Rossana O'Hop, the CFO of HalfYard and a dear friend. When Rossana lost her husband unexpectedly in 2021, Sean asked her to join him in launching Fiddlewicks. She agreed immediately, both recognizing that this venture was about more than just candles - it was about friendship, life's challenges, and partnership. In early 2023, after Fiddlewicks' first holiday season, Sean was diagnosed with cancer. The partnership became even more meaningful to him and his family. “F&*% Cancer” became their rallying cry and a new candle that resonated deeply. Sean fought bravely until the end, enduring numerous rounds of chemo, radiation, and even a liver transplant. His passing on July 19, 2024, was a devastating loss for everyone who knew him. Still, his passion for Fiddlewicks continued, giving his family a way to connect with Sean and cope with the crushing grief. Sean’s wife, Deirdre, took on his role at Fiddlewicks, knowing it was the best way to honor Sean's memory. Now, she and Rossana are managing the business together, fostering friendship, and facing life's challenges as a team.
