Katie Coppens is a local science teacher and author who has written eight STEM-themed books, including The Acadia Files, which is set in Freeport! The Acadia Files is a chapter book series that teaches science through the curiosity of ten-year old Acadia. Acadia gains knowledge about the world around her by asking questions, drawing observations in her science notebook, and conducting experiments. At Katie’s tent, there will be hands-on activities from this series for families to take part in! Katie will also have books available for purchase. Her most recent book about climate change won the 2022 Ben Franklin Award (gold) and the Nautilus Award (gold) for Young Adult nonfiction.
