Nuthatch Nuts is a candied smoked nut medley of pecans, cashews, hazelnuts and almonds. I came up with the recipe when I owned a popular Charcuteria in Colorado to pair with my charcuterie boards as well as a delicious bar snack. After moving home to Maine with my family I decided to pursue this venture as I could grow this business alongside raising my two littles in rural Leeds. They have been described as sophisticated snacking with the perfect balance of smoky and sweet (but not heavy on either). I use date syrup as the primary sweetener along with brown sugar and spices to create the base then the nuts are smoked with applewood from my backyard. The packaging is chic and the business is growing quickly :) They are currently sold at special food shops such as Browne Trading Market and Monte's in Portland as well as shipped and sold direct through Maker's Markets and fairs. I currently offer four flavors: Original, Touch of heat (slightly spicy) and Cherries & Chocolate which includes chunks of dark chocolate and dried cherries. The newest flavor is Maine Maple.
